lansing limbo

Since the month of March is apparently about getting real, I figure I should probably introduce myself. . .

f i n a l l y .

As you may or may not have figured out by now, I’m Erin. I’m in my mid twenties and currently living in Lansing, Michigan (or Lansing Limbo, as I frequently call it). I’m a wife, a textile designer, an amateur chef, a sister and daughter, a traveler, a talker and a dreamer, and an aspiring “get out on my own and put my creative skills and passions to beautiful use” wedding and interiors stylist.

But let’s back up to that Lansing Limbo part for a quick second (well, I suppose “quick” depends on how fast you read). Why “limbo” you ask? Well, let me just answer that question for you, friend! Basically, we’re in “limbo” because I’m head over heels in love with my day job as a textile designer in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Jason is also in love with his job. . .

with his family business. . .

in Jackson.

For those of you who don’t know Michigan geography very well, that’s about a 45-50 minute commute for BOTH of us, each way, everyday.

ignore the Petoskey location for this demonstration, (it’s where we got married)

I really don’t think it’s all that bad, (I mean come on, there are w a a a a y worse things in life and I consider my drive time, down time + think time + catch up with my friends who live all over the country time . . .  plus, getting to cozy up to my husband at the end of every day makes ANY drive worth it).  Not to mention, I know there are lots of people who have to deal with that commute + more in larger cities…

…however,

having said all that,

for us,

it’s just not a forever thing.

We currently live in a two bedroom apartment (in a complex which = ZERO character) and we’re making due and enjoying newlywed life. As averagely amazing as that sounds, it should come as no shock to you that we’re frequently dreaming of the day our realtor hands us the keys to our very first house! (that has LOADS of character! + spare bedrooms for friends . . . and, dare I say . . . babies!. . . ok, o k , s o m e d a y babies)

a photo of the top of our dresser in our Lansing Limbo apartment. Now that I’m seeing it in photo form, we need some more color! I’ll have to remedy that soon. Red frame maybe? or perhaps a trimmed out lampshade?

I’ll keep you posted.

a close up of the drawing I made for Jason back in 2004. I’ll add “learn to control + photoshop out my flash” to my TO DO list also.

so yay, that was a little bit about me… click here if you’re interested in more 🙂

hi there

I’m Erin. I’m in my mid twenties and currently living in Lansing, Michigan. I’m a wife, a textile designer, an amateur chef, a sister and daughter, a traveler, a talker and a dreamer, and a as of today, a blogger.

One of my favorite things to do on a lazy Sunday is to type in the url of one of my favorite blogs, dig back to the very first post, and start reading. There’s something so encouraging about seeing someone’s dreams develop after having been documented over a number of years.  I can only hope that one day this blog will have that magical, encouraging element to it when someone digs back to find this post.

Here, in the Something Styled blog, I will share my musings + inspiration because I’m fortunate enough to be inspired daily. I also already know that there will be times when this blog will become personal because I have a horrendous habit of over sharing. This will be a place where I will record my business dreams, whether I remain a textile designer, or (fingers crossed and praying for the best) my entrepreneurial dreams of becoming a stylist of weddings and interiors comes into fruition. Just typing those words makes my hands shake, but it’s time to face those fears.  Regardless of what this blog becomes and how it evolves, my life is changing. I’m ready for the next chapter, and I’ve decided this chapter will be recorded.

Please stay tuned!
